During our stay on the El Camino Real de Los Tejas we spent a night in the Mockingbird Suites in Nacogdoches, Texas. This historic home was originally built in 1899 and was recently renovated. This breathtakingly beautiful property is a must-stay on our list.
It is no secret that our family loves visiting gardens. We are members of our local Botanical Gardens and go numerous times throughout the year. Another favorite of ours is the Dallas Arboretum. Each time we visit there is something new to see. The flower blooms are always changing and they bring in exhibits to showcase. Right now, until July 31st, Dallas Arboretum is hosting ZimSculpt – an exhibition of contemporary stone sculptures. Appearing for the first time in the southern U.S., more than 100 exquisite Zimbabwean modern sculptures are artfully displayed throughout the garden. Recently I was invited by the Nacogdoches Visitor Bureau on a complimentary trip to explore their town. Nacogdoches is the oldest town in Texas and filled with history. To my surprise they had a basement filled with several small exhibits and history lessons. This large mural can be found inside the visitor center. They offer… Read More

One of my favorite places to go to while in Gatlinburg, Tennessee is Sugarlands Distilling Co. Nestled on the main strip in the Smoky Mountains they have the best tasting moonshine I’ve ever had. Sugarlands has a pretty large store front. You can walk in to browse their moonshine, branded apparel or to listen to live music on their outdoor stage in the back. Every time we visit Gatlinburg my wife knows that I must make the trip over to Sugarlands. I love to see what new flavors they have out. She doesn’t mind waiting while I take part in the… Read More
